Don't forget to clean your Tumble Dryer Filter - Tumble Dryer Repair Preston

Don't forget to clean your Tumble Dryer Filter - Tumble Dryer Repair Preston

Primary tabs

With the bad weather still with us, many of us have to use the tumble dryer instead of being able to peg out the washing. At Arrow Electrics - Preston Appliance Repairs, we are coming across a lot of faults that could really have been avoided with a little extra care and attention.
It is easily forgot about but the filter on a tumble dryer is an essential piece of the jigsaw. If this gets blocked, then the thermostats and the element on the machine bake. They get hotter and hotter until the machine tricks itself into thinking that it is overheating and possibly going to set on fire. This makes either the thermostats or the heating element faulty. We have been to many dryers in the last few months in the Preston and Blackpool areas with this exact fault.
On a vented (pipe through the wall) tumble dryer, the filter is just inside the door. On a condensing tumble dryer (no vent hose but you collect water in a bottle), there is a filter inside the door and also a big metal pull out filter, usually at the bottom. Many people with condenser dryers forget about this one. It is essential for the machine to function at full strength that this is clean and you should be able to see daylight from front to back. Pouring water down using either a shower head or outside tap is the easiest solution. Don't worry about getting it wet as there are no electrics inside it.
Also cleaning out your filters will in time save you money on your electricity bill with the clothes drying quicker and the machine not having to overwork.
We hope that this gives you a little bit of a help until the warmer weather arrives (fingers crossed on that).
If you require any further help or assistance with any of your domestic appliances, Washing Machines, Dishwashers, Cookers, Ovens, Ranges and of coarse Tumble Dryers just give either Nick or Catherine a call at Arrow Electrics - Preston Appliance Repairs and we will do everything we can to help you.

#Preston - Whirlpools takeover of Indesit

The sale if the Italian appliance giant Indesit to the US owned Whirlpool, took place in July 2014, bring the ownership of the Italian Merloni family to an end. The Merloni family first started the Indesit company back in 1930 and over the years have aquired many other domestic appliance brands along the way, most notable are Hotpoint and Creda.
Whirlpool bought the Merloni families 60% shares in the business for close to $1 billion. It is thought that the acquisition of Indesit will bring Whirlpool a larger interest in the European market. After acquiring the Maytag Corporation on March 31, 2006, the Whirlpool Corporation surpassed Electrolux to become "the largest home appliance maker in the world."
It is still unsure what will become of the Hotpoint and Indesit brands in the UK and we wait with baited breath to see if this means the end for the two hallmark appliance names.
Needless to say, whatever make of appliance you have, be it Hotpoint, Indesit, Whirlpool or beyond, Arrow Electrics will carry out all repairs, in your own home with NO CALL OUT FEE, just like we've been doing for the last 25 years.
So if you have a Washing Machine, Oven, Cooker, Dishwasher or Tumble Dryer in the Preston and the Fylde areas, please don't hesitate to give us a call today.

Is your washing machine starting to smell? Do you have an eggy smell when you walk near your washer? Has you door seal started to go black? Arrow Electrics Preston may well have the solution for you. www.arrowelectrics.co.uk

You are not on your own. It is more common than you think.
This is due to your doing too many cold or low temperature washes.
It is common knowledge that washing machines are more economical than they used to be by using less water and less power but in doing so they where taking a lot longer to complete a cycle.
What the makers then did was to introduce quick wash cycles and low temperture programmes to bring the times down, along with detergent manufacturers advertising that you an get great results from washing at 30 degrees.
This is where the new problems arise. Because the washing machines are never having a hot wash put through them, or very infrequently,  like they where years ago, they are not dissolving and diluting the powders and liquids and these detergents are sticking in the machines to the door rubbers and drum tanks and are then rotting away. This in turn creates this horrible smell which can permeate your clothes and your house.

The solution - There is no quick and easy way to get rid of this problem. Most of the smell will be coming from the door seal (door rubber, door bellows, rubber seal) and changing this will help, but also with this you will need to buy a washing machine cleaner, the best in my opinion is CALGON, available from most supermarkets. If you put this in your wash, once a week with no clothes in and wash at a hot temperature, either 60 degrees or 90 degrees, this will eventually get rid of the smell.
There are other old wives tales about how to clean a washing machine ie. Vinegar, Bleach, Bicarbonate of Soda, but nothing in my opinion cleans as well or as quickly as Calgon. No i'm not a salesman for them but I wish I was, I would be due quite a lot of commision by now. But you will have to persevere, its not an overnight cure.

Even when the smell has gone, it is still best for your machine if you can do at least one hotter wash a week just to keep the problem from reoccurring.

If you need your washing machine repaired in Preston or Blackpool or have any questions regarding this problem just give Arrow Electrics - Domestic Appliance Repairs a call today @arrowelectrics on 01772 655466 and we can sort this problem out with you together.
